Three injured as fire breaks out at power substation in Chennai
Three Tamil Nadu Electricity Board employees suffered burn injuries when a fire broke out at a substation in Vepery here on Wednesday. The injured, identified as assistant engineer Suresh, foreman Lawrence and temporary worker Barani, have been admitted to a private hospital in Nungambakkam.
Police said the fire broke out around 9.40am when the trio tried to change the lever of the power transmission unit panel. A woman staff said she had rushed inside hearing the cries of the trio and seen the assistant engineer’s hair and face burnt. The other two employees had suffered minor burn injuries, she said.
Two fire tenders from Egmore rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze. Power supply was disrupted temporarily at Vepery and in some areas of Periamet due to the incident.
